Protecting Our People
Heavy industry provides safety challenges and metal recycling is no exception.
Southern Recycling is committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees, customers and suppliers, and others affected by our activities.
Southern Recycling meets and, wherever possible, exceed our regulatory responsibilities. We pride ourselves on an excellent safety record and setting industry standards. We strive constantly to improve our safety performance.
Health and safety underpins all aspects of our operations and we are continually working to put ever-improved controls in place. We strive to clearly define the responsibilities of our people and ensure they are competent and have the right working procedures. This includes extensive training programs, proper protective equipment, and proper precautions for physical labor and the safe operation of equipment. In addition, we maintain stringent controls on hazardous and dangerous materials.
Southern Recycling believes the full support of each employee is essential to effectiveness of its safety program. Our principle goal is to promote a working environment where tasks are approached safety and employees are aware of potential risks and play an active part in managing them. To ensure that company health and safety objectives are met, we develop and enhance our policies, plans and training in close consultation with our people – from management to the yard workers. This awareness extends to any sub-contractors working at our facilities.
Southern Recycling has a robust, in-house safety and environmental training program that is supplemented, where necessary, with outside training and certification. The safety and environmental department serves the specialist support, general training, and consultancy needs of Southern Recycling and is an on-going resource for our customers. The department oversights the company’s performance, reviews and develops procedures, develops training, keeps open communication with regulatory agencies and the local community, as well as works closely with customers to ensure any specific safety requirements are met.
